Hello! I’m Melbourne, Clinical Director at Carew Dental and this is my journey in dentistry, a journey that began back in 2005 when I qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Newcastle University. It was the perfect launchpad for what’s become a truly rewarding career.
The following year, I completed my Vocational Training (now known as Foundation Training), a crucial step that bridged the gap between university and independent practice. It’s where I really learned the ropes, guided by an experienced mentor.
Commitment to Continuous Learning
My passion for continuous learning led me to pursue further qualifications. In 2008, I achieved the MFGDP (Member of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners) from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a testament to my commitment to general dental excellence.
Looking to tackle more complex cases, I embarked on a two-year Diploma in Restorative Dentistry, also from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, which I completed in 2012.
Balancing Family & Professional Growth
Then came a wonderful, if slightly hectic, period! Between 2012 and 2017, my focus shifted to my growing family, with the arrival of my son and daughter. While formal training took a backseat, I kept my skills sharp with numerous short courses and, of course, embraced the joys of fatherhood.
In 2017, I returned to formal study, focusing on implant dentistry. After completing numerous implant courses, I wanted to specialise. A two-year diploma from the Cambridge Academy of Dental Implantology and Aston University followed in 2019, allowing me to combine my restorative skills with advanced implant techniques.
This led to me becoming an Associate Fellow of the College of General Dentistry, a recognition I’m very proud of.
Despite promising myself a break from exams, the lure of further expertise was too strong! I completed a Master of Science in Advanced Implantology from Aston University in 2022.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Patient Care
So, what’s next? I’m always looking for ways to improve and provide the best possible care for my patients. I’m excited to see what the future holds, and I’ll be sharing my insights and experiences here on this blog.
