You need to attend the practice regularly for health checks and clean and polish appointments. We always recommend airflow clean and polishes for porcelain veneers as this lifts staining and bacteria around the margins of the veneers and helps maintain excellent oral health.
You also need to care for your teeth at home. This will extend the lifespan of your veneers, ensure they look fabulous, and maintain oral well-being.
Book your FREE Hygiene Education Appointment at Carew Dental! We are offering all our porcelain veneers patients a free education appointment with one of our hygienists to teach you how to maintain your porcelain veneers at home.
This appointment will give you practical advice for maintaining your composites, and get the best from your new smile!
Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss once a day. Follow our Oral Health guides to learn how to brush and floss like a pro!
Water flossing is a fantastic addition to your home oral health routine. We recommend Water Pik water flossers and have found they reduce margin staining and improve oral health.
💡Water flossing can be messy – try a cordless flosser and water floss in the shower!
Porcelain veneers are made from extremely strong porcelain and rarely chip or crack.
The weakest element of a porcelain veneer is the bond that attaches the veneer to the natural tooth. If you’re not mindful of this, you can damage your veneers and cause them to break away from your teeth.
Take the following steps to avoid damaging the bond attaching your veneers to your teeth:
When we receive calls from distressed patients with a lost veneer, we understand it feels like an emergency and will arrange your repair appointment as soon as we can. But by taking care 9 out of 10 times you could have avoided the drama altogether!
If a veneer does come away, SAVE it!
Porcelain veneers are made individually for you by a special dental laboratory and if you lose it you’ll have to have a new one made and that’s costly!
If you save it we can often resurface it in-house and reattach it at the same appointment.
