Dental emergencies can happen when you least expect them. At Carew Dental, we understand that dental emergencies don’t always occur during regular office hours. That’s why we’re dedicated to providing reliable, efficient care outside of normal clinic hours for our existing patients, right when you need it most.
What is a dental emergency?
When we talk about a dental emergency, it’s any situation that requires immediate care to prevent serious damage or relieve significant pain. There are several common types of dental emergencies that we frequently handle at Carew Dental.
Swelling: Swelling in the gums, face, or around the jaw is often a sign of an infection or abscess. This kind of swelling can be painful and potentially dangerous if left untreated, as infections can spread. Immediate care is crucial to manage the infection and prevent further complications.
Bleeding: Uncontrolled bleeding, especially from the gums or mouth, is a clear indication that something is wrong. This could occur after a dental procedure or as a result of an injury. If bleeding persists, it’s important to seek professional care immediately to avoid excessive blood loss and address the underlying cause.
Trauma: Dental trauma, such as a chipped, cracked, or knocked-out tooth, often happens suddenly due to accidents or injuries. Not only can trauma cause pain, but it can also affect the function and appearance of your teeth. The sooner you get treatment, the better the chance of saving the tooth or preventing further damage.
Severe Pain: Severe or persistent tooth pain, especially if it’s sharp or throbbing, could be a sign of a deeper issue like an infection, a cavity, or nerve damage. When pain is intense and doesn’t subside, it’s a clear sign that you need emergency care to relieve the pain and treat the problem effectively.
Each of these situations can cause discomfort, stress, or even long-term damage if not addressed quickly. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, don’t wait—get in touch with us right away.
What Can Carew Dental Do To Help In An Out of Hours Emergency?
If you’re an existing patient and experience a dental emergency, simply give us a call and leave a voicemail with your name, a brief description of the emergency, and your contact details.
We monitor these messages closely between 7:00 AM and 10:00 PM, 365 days a year. We aim to respond within 2 hours, and one of our team members will send you an SMS from an anonymous number to begin the triage process and guide you through the next steps for your dental emergency. If your emergency falls outside of these hours, please contact NHS 111 or visit accident and emergency for further assistance.
If a telephone consultation is deemed the most appropriate way to address your dental emergency, there will be a fee of £45 for this service. However, if you are a member of Club Carew, you’ll be pleased to know that this fee is fully covered as part of your membership benefits. This means you can access the expert advice and support you need without any additional cost, giving you peace of mind during an emergency.
If it’s determined that an in-practice appointment is the best course of action to manage your dental emergency, the cost for this service will be £240. However, if you are a member of Club Carew, you’ll benefit from a significant advantage—this fee is fully covered as part of your membership. This means that, as a member, you can receive the urgent care you need without any additional cost, ensuring you have access to professional treatment when it matters most.
What can you do if you are away from home?
