Crowns

Crowns consist of a tooth-shaped cover that is made to look natural and either fits over a damaged tooth or attaches to the abutment of an implant. Dental glue or cement is usually used to affix the restoration.

Dental crowns can be used for the following reasons:

  • Restoring a broken or damaged tooth
  • Strengthening a weakened tooth
  • When a filling isn’t an option
  • Approving aesthetics
  • Reinforcing a tooth seal after a root canal

Crown Materials

The material we chose depends on the patient and their needs. If they have composite bonding, they might prefer a resin-bonded crown to match their composite bonding. However, a laboratory-made composite crown will be more robust. Implant crowns are always laboratory-made from porcelain.

Bridges

A dental bridge is a dental prosthesis that ‘bridges’ the gap between the other remaining teeth. The most common type of bridge is a ‘fixed bridge’, which has an artificial tooth covering the gap and is secured to the neighbouring teeth on either side. Bridges are made to look natural and match the surrounding teeth.

Dental bridges can be used for the following reasons:

  • Restoring spaces
  • Restoring chewing and speech function
  • Preventing neighbouring teeth from shifting into the gap left by missing teeth

Bridge Materials

Dental bridges should match the surrounding teeth. A resin-bonded bridge is the cheapest but weakest solution, as it does not have the surface area to endure pressure in the same way that a porcelain-bonded pontic does. Implant-retained bridges are always laboratory-made from porcelain.

our work

Before & after

This patient wanted to imrpove the look of their smile. Treatment was to replace existing crowns and reduce the gap between the front teeth.

our work

Before & after

The patient had discoloured front teeth plus a gap and abscess. After treating the gums and abscess, completing root canal treatment and whitening to the front teeth, a bridge was made to fill the gap.
